2010 Meeting Schedule and Topics & Presenters
- Wednesday, September 1 (Meeting at Bethlehem Baptist Church)
Holistic Church Planting: A two pronged model from India training evangelists to plant churches and giving them resources to educate people about preventing HIV/AIDS.India is not only the largest Hindu country with the second largest HIV population but will soon be the largest HIV/AIDS country in the world (passing China). The need for churches to be aware of this and engaged in stemming back this number may appeal to both churches already evangelistically active in India as a complement to what they are doing, and for churches interested in India this may be an informative entry point.
About the speaker: Indian national, Rabindran “Rabi” Shelley, is the India country director for World Relief, leading this holistic mission effort that includes both church planting & evangelism and compassion & mercy ministry. Rabi has held a variety of leadership assignments with both World Relief and World Vision in his 14 year tenure with both organizations. At one point Rabi and his wife Subipryia moved into the slums in New Delhi for several years to incarnationally live in word and deed among those who were not served by the gospel. They married church planting with development among the poorest of the poor and marginalized. Additionally, as a writer and a communication consultant, Rabi has contributed to Brian McLaren’s “The Justice Project” among two other books published by Gospel Literature Service and ISPCK in India.” Rabi will join us September 1st to lead this presentation.
